Quick Guide to Audio Leads (NO GEEK SPEAK )

RCA or Phono Lead
often found on the back of a hi fi amp
or inputs to a DJ desk

1/4 inch jack lead
to connect instruments – guitar into an amp
or one piece of equipment to another a keyboard into a mixing desk
XLR Lead or Mic Cable
to connect mics and other equipment
the end with prongs is called a male XLR
the end with holes is a female XLR

mini jack lead
to plug out of a head phone socket (or your phone or your laptop)

Mixing it up
A cable with the same srt of connector at each end is call –
and XLR to XLR
or
A Jack-to Jack etc..
Often you will want one kind of connector on one end and different sort on the other .
So for instance a mini jack to come out of your ipod but with jacks at the other end to plug into a mixing desk
( there will be 2 as your headphone output is stereo – more abut this is an minute )

You can also buy adaptors to turn one end of a lead into another type – super handy
